Most common personality tests are in the form of a questionnaire with a multiple-choice response that a test taker can choose based on the best-suited reaction to the situation presented to them. There are no right or wrong answers, but a person’s traits can be gathered from this test. It tells us how different people react in a completely different manner in the same scenario, and based on that; they are divided into various personality types.
While there are various personality types, today, we will look at one of the most famous types, known as the five dimensions of personality. In this, basic traits of personality are grouped into five categories.
Openness:
This indicates the extent of the open-mindedness of a person. A high score means that the person is extremely open to new experiences, can also be seen as someone who could challenge authority and likes to engage in and learn new things constantly. Also, people scoring high in this are very insightful and have a super imaginative mind!
Conscientiousness:
People who score a higher number in this category are supposed to be highly considerate, organized, thoughtful, and very mindful about how their behaviour affects others around them. They are also very focused on their goals and proceed towards their goals extremely methodically.
Extraversion:
In other words, extroverts. They feed on high energy; social setups, engaging with people and being in a crowd gets these people very excited. They thrive on high emotional expressiveness and are talkative with an outgoing personality.
People scoring low in this category are introverts. They have a reserved nature, prefer solitude, find social events unnerving to an extent, and are not the most comfortable when caught in a crowd or are made the centre of attention.
Agreeableness:
A high score in agreeableness means the person is very trustworthy, depicts kindness and affection. They care about everyone around them and not just friends and family but co-workers as well. They are high in altruistic quotients.
A low score in this category could mean some negative traits. People can be manipulative since they do not care much about others around them. They can also be highly competitive and not necessarily in a positive manner.
Neuroticism:
In this category, the emotional stability of a person in various situations is gauged. People with a high score experience high levels of stress, are constantly worried, have anxiety, and get upset easily.
Similarly, people with a low score in this are emotionally stable even in stressful situations. They are quite relaxed in their demeanour and are resilient.
