I recently read a fascinating article about Tim Cook completing 10 successful years as the CEO of Apple and how he actually surpassed the achievements of the original genius, Steve Jobs! No one expected this man, who came from a background of global supply chains and spreadsheets, to be able to do a role of inspiring one of the most creative technology businesses that exist today. He knew he had large shoes to fill, but clearly, he focused on his strengths instead of weaknesses to bring Apple where it is today!

It is natural to dwell on our weaknesses rather than centering ourselves on our strengths; however, all successful people push themselves to do otherwise. It isn’t easy for anyone to be able to look away from their weakness but to achieve the goals one has set, it is crucial to decrease their effect and move on!
1. Self-reflection
This is the first and one of the most important steps towards overcoming your weaknesses, and that is recognizing them! By self-reflecting, one becomes aware of their own weaknesses and strengths which they can maneuver to their advantage. Making a list of both is a great idea to start with.
2. Have a plan
Once you know where you lack skills or knowledge, be well prepared and plan to tackle the situation in which you might face your weakness head-on. Do thorough research, and be well equipped to deal with it mentally as well. For example, you are pitching to a client for the first time, finding out everything about this person professionally and personally. Having all the information will help you prepare for the conversation better and go a long way in winning the pitch!
3. Delegate
One of the easier ways to get around your weakness is hiring someone who has the skills you lack! Do not shy away from delegating tasks and hiring people to get work done smoothly that you might not be able to do on your own.
4. Get advice
This was one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever got! Take advice from someone you trust, and that person does not have to be working in the same industry as you. Getting an honest perspective on a problem is an excellent solution on its own. This may help you recognize your weakness that you may have been overlooking and, in the process dragging the issues you are having with your company.
5. Turn your weakness into strength
More often than not, you are not the only one with a particular weakness or lack of a certain skill. It might be a problem for many, and by finding a solution, you could perhaps turn it around into a business idea! For example, many phone apps were developed due to a lack of skill or need for expertise in a particular industry. Instagram was born thanks to the idea that it could have someone who could take pictures of them with add-on filters like Photoshop but without having the skills to work the complicated software!
